You Should Be Dancing en ArtsSònica/Arts Santa Mònica

Next friday, december 20th, I'll be joining fellow sound artists Laura Llaneli and LinaLab and present my piece You Should Be Dancing, with the dancer Javier Vaquero Ollero, as a part of the ArtsSònica program, in Arts Santa Mònica in Barcelona. I hope to see you there!

Algorave BCN

December 1st I'll present some interactive stuff that relates to an ongoing investigation about loops and postproduction of music at Algorave Barcelona. I'm not that much into live coding becase 1) I suck at coding, 2) Max/MSP sucks as a live coding platform and is the only thing I know a bit and 3) I have some issues with the idea of me doing live coding that I don't want to address right now. But Algorave is not only live coding, so please come by and enjoy a nice glitchy concert! There will be a couple of high profile live coders there.

Residency at L'Estruch

During October, I'll be spending some days every week in this very nice studio in Sabadell, near Barcelona, in a residency/art center called L'Estruch. Not bad having 8 Genelecs and a nice subwoofer to experiment with...

I'll be experimenting with sound generated by clicks/pulses and what happens when you speed them up to the point they become tones. That's not really new, but I'm willing to check what happens when these clicks are distributed spatially - I don't really know what's going to happen, but I hope to be able to make some music with it.

Cueva de Sonidos, BCN

Mauricio Iregui, León David Cobo and I will be presenting some recent works at La Chinata in BCN. This is a quite unusual place despite the fact that it is across the street from MACBA. On the street level, there's a nice olive oil shop, and in the undergroud there's a nice cove with a weird reverberation.

I'll be presenting a video (update: the video) about a virtual sound installation there.

Trans Europe Express - transbaixada baile funk mix

This was an old bootleg remix I did (Kraftwerk's TEE vs baile funk goodness). This was played a LOT in a party that was very important a few years ago in Rio de Janeiro (Festa Phunk), and people went crazy on the floor. Recently, I stumbled onto it again (for parties in Barcelona), so I'm uploading it even though its EQ is horrible. Anyway, I feel now like doing some experiments mixing Roc Jiménez de Cisneros ideas of Hyperobjects (which he applied to the Hoover synth sound from many rave techno hits) to some Baile Funk's themes. Let's see how it fares.

I've recently started to collaborate with Hangar's blog on sound art - the first post is about the centenary of Luigi Russolo's L'Arte dei Rumori.

ZKM - Klangbaustelle

Lina, Mauricio and I went to ZKM/Karlsruhe in order to check out the Soundart exhibit going on there, and we had a terrific time there, not only because of the incredible exposition we attended.

Also, we had the chance to meet Peter Kiefer and Kaspar König, from a sound art master course in Mainz, Germany. We participated in a very insightful workshop they offered about "playing the building", mostly with transducers and piezo mics, which were used to extract resonant sound from parts of the building, and it all ended up in a collective performance in the main ZKM entrance hall.
